Pulling for the Burton family of Rockford, Washington is without a doubt a passion when it comes to blowing black smoke in the Diesel Classes with Northwest Truck Pulls, and the Cascade Pullers, two of the most competitive pulling classes you will find anywhere.
Jason, the father of the Burton’s, got started at the local fair in run what you bring class in late 90’s. He was already working on diesel pickups on the side and was what he owned so in was a natural fit. Currently he hooks in with a 2005 Dodge and has racked up 20 years of experience behind the wheel.
Sporting a 1994 Dodge with the unique name Little Green Wienie, is 24 year old Tricia Burton, who has been pulling since she was 14 years old. Tricia’s first pull was in Ritzville, Washington at the age of 14 for a grudge match Dodge vs. Ford vs. Chevy. Father Jason didn’t even get the whole question out of do you want to out before she said yes….She took second but was hooked from there.
Kelsey Burton, age 20, drives a 1992 Dodge that goes by the name “Olaf”. She has been pulling since she was 17 years old. Kelsey was 17 when she made her first pull and was fairly nervous, but finished with grin on her face.
Son T.J., age 14, joins his sisters as the most recent member of the Burton Family pulling team. It all started last year when T.J. said he wanted to pull, so at a charity pull in Moses Lake last fall he did just that. He got behind the wheel at two pulls in the summer of 2016…..Same grin and now hooked as well already looking forward to hooking again this year.
If you ask Jason he will tell you that he has enjoyed pulling for a long time, but it’s been more fun teaching and watching his kids get started and competing, doing well and enjoying the sport.
